We measured the polarization dependence of the oxygen K-edge X-ray absorption spectrum using a superconducting tunnel junction X-ray detector to investigate the anisotropy of the oxygen 2p electronic state in strontium titanate thin films. The intensity ratio varies with the incident angle in thin films, while no variation was observed in a single crystal. The difference is attributed to the anisotropy of the oxygen 2p electronic state in thin films. We clarify the anisotropic electronic states of the oxygen 2p orbitals using a superconducting tunnel junction X-ray detector to measure the oxygen Kα line selectively.
