Although it has been reported that monolayer MoS2 exhibits improved gas sensing performance upon light irradiation, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we evaluated the photoresponse and transfer characteristics in both a nitrogen atmosphere and dry air to investigate the effect of oxygen. The results showed that in dry air, the response and recovery rates improved with increasing light intensity. Furthermore, the threshold voltage shift was smaller than that in a nitrogen atmosphere. These results suggest that charge transfer with oxygen suppresses the photogating effect.
