Moderator materials for reactor-based positron sources suffer irradiation damage caused by neutron irradiation. In this study, we evaluated the irradiation effect of polycrystalline Pt foil specimens with different irradiation doses and moderator temperatures. Neutron-irradiation damage was simulated by MeV-order self-ion (Pt-ion) irradiation to the Pt specimens. Damage accumulation was analyzed using positron annihilation spectroscopy and the VEPFIT code was used to calculate positron diffusion lengths. Defect recovery is enhanced under high-temperature conditions, indicating the possibility of extending lifetimes of the moderators.
