Photonic crystals (PhC) are able to diffract and reflect at the specific wavelength of light based on their periodic nanostructures. Based on these optical characteristics, polymer-based PhC have been developed for optical sensing applications using nanoimprint lithography. However, using this PhC, recognition elements need to be immobilized for biosensing applications which causes a decrease in sensitivity due to the increment of the surface roughness. In this study, to reduce the surface roughness, protein-based PhC was fabricated.
