We clarified the effects of the difference of chemical species (NH4+ or NH3) in the cavities of hexagonal WO3 on structural stability and electrical and optical properties. The phonon dispersion calculations showed that the hexagonal structure can stably exist in both cases. The electron density and electron energy loss spectroscopy calculations confirmed the electron doping to WO3 and the increased infrared absorption intensity only in the presence of NH4+. All these results were consistent with experimental results.
