The orientational structure and polarization properties of vapor-deposited polyurea thin films were investigated. Second-harmonic generation (SHG) was observed in the as-deposited films, suggesting the presence of spontaneous orientational polarization. The SHG intensity and piezoelectric coefficient showed different changes depending on the polarity of corona poling. Larger values were obtained after negative-polarity poling. These results suggest that the dipole moments of the urea linkages are preferentially oriented toward the aluminum substrate.
