As the development of 6th generation and beyond communication systems progresses, interest is growing in the properties of plastic materials used in millimetre wave band equipment. Since low loss is generally important for materials used in this frequency range, it is necessary to measure the dielectric loss tangent to an accuracy of the negative fourth power of magnitude. Until now, such measurements have been difficult to achieve using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). This study reports on improvements to THz-TDS and measurements of four types of cycloolefin polymer.
