Organic molecules possess high synthetic flexibility, yet controlling their solid-state electronic structures is often difficult. By regulating carrier-to-carrier Coulomb repulsion through the design of extended-conjugated systems, we realized the precise electronic control of molecular conductors and semiconductors in both single-crystal and thin-film forms. Key achievements include a seven-order tuning of resistivity, metallization, and high conductivity in alternating-stack configurations. Furthermore, the research expanded into the development of diverse functionalities, such as controlling transport anisotropy in air-stable solution-processed thin films and creating water-stable paramagnetic materials. This work was a result of a collaboration with Professor Hatsumi Mori and her group at the Institute for Solid State Physics, the University of Tokyo.
