In teacher education, it is important for future teachers to experience learner-centered learning through subject-specific instruction. This presentation reports an interactive introductory physics course for pre-service science teachers, designed to promote both conceptual understanding and reflection on learning and teaching. In the course, everyday physical phenomena are used to elicit students’ intuitive ideas. Students explain their own thinking, listen to others’ ideas, and engage in discussion to resolve inconsistencies between intuitive and scientific concepts. Rather than accepting correct answers passively, students construct understanding through interaction.Through these experiences, students recognize that understanding develops through social interaction. This contributes to deeper conceptual understanding of physics and to the formation of new views on learning and teaching, which are essential for teachers who continue to learn throughout their careers.
