The operating mechanism of organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) with a field plate (FP) was studied and compared with that of conventional OTFTs. Using automated experiments, electrical data were collected from more than 3,000 devices, and the relationship between OTFT structure and electrical properties was analyzed. As a result, characteristic behaviors unique to OTFT with FP were clarified, and a simple theoretical model to explain these behaviors was developed. This model shows that OTFT with FP can improve the performance of organic amplifier circuits.
