Devices interfacing biological surfaces such as skin require high conformability, stretchability, and water vapor permeability. In this study, we fabricated ultrathin island structures on ultrathin elastomeric substrates to achieve active device platform that satisfies these requirements. By introducing protective layers with appropriate adhesion, direct deposition and patterning of the ultrathin island layers were enabled. We further fabricated organic transistors on the platform, which exhibited electrical characteristics comparable to those on conventional substrates.
