β-phase MoTe2 is a semimetallic layered material that exhibits superconductivity. While numerous reports exist on the growth of bulk single crystals and thin films of β-phase MoTe2, few exist on the synthesis and property characterization of its elongated nanoribbons. We report the successful direct growth of β-phase MoTe2 nanoribbons on substrates by chemical vapor deposition, achieving controlled growth of nanoribbons within a limited range of their widths up to 40 nm and heights up to 5 nm.
