We have started research on graphene growth by CVD using ethanol. Thus far we have shown that graphene can be grown on silver surfaces and that the high vapor pressure of silver inhibits to achieve its high quality. Also, This indicates that the addition of hydrogen to the carrier gas is effective in improving the growth of graphene. In this study, We attempted CVD growth by changing the source gas from ethanol , which has a low vapor pressure, to acetylene , which can support growth at atmospheric pressure. As a result, the crystallinity of graphene is better when using acetylene as the source gas than when using ethanol. The reason for this difference in crystallinity is currently unknown, but it is believed to be due to the different reactions between the decomposition products of the two gases and the silver surface, which in turn affected the evaporation of the silver.
