We developed metal nanoparticle labels coated with an artificial antibody polymer, enabling temperature-controlled binding affinity. Heating the label dispersion from 293 K to 323 K increased the turbidity of the dispersion, and the absorbance increased accordingly. Upon cooling, the absorbance decreased, returning to its initial value at 293 K. This reversible change in absorbance reflects the thermoresponsive property of the NIPAm copolymer and suggests that the surface state of the labels can be controlled by temperature.
