The time-dependent surface properties of silica glass in water were investigated using peak force tapping atomic force microscopy. The sample was immersed in water for up to 180 min, during which the temporal evolution of adhesion force and Young’s modulus was measured. The adhesion force decreased monotonically, whereas Young’s modulus exhibited non-monotonic time dependence. Based on these results, dynamic changes in the surface properties of silica glass in water are discussed.
