The need for high-density data storage is growing rapidly, and the demand for larger capacity in hard disk drives (HDDs) is stronger. However, the physical limits of magnetic recording in HDDs are becoming apparent. To overcome these challenges, we have started exploring the possibility of writing ultra-high-density data on ferroelectric thin films, aiming toward future HDDs that use ferroelectric media. In this study, we demonstrated that the size of the polarized domains in ferroelectric thin films can be controlled by adjusting the timing of the electric field polarity reversal.
