In this study, we investigate a method that employs a liquid crystal with Δε > 0 and an array of circular-aperture electrodes patterned on a vertically aligned cell. Within each aperture, a radially inclined electric field forms and induces radial in-plane alignment of the liquid crystal molecules, enabling operation as a q-plate. Under experimental conditions of a 50 µm cell thickness, Δn = 0.1, and a 0.5 mm aperture diameter, polarizing optical microscopy and observation of dark cores associated with optical vortices were carried out. The results indicate a high likelihood that the structure operates as an electrically driven q-plate.
