In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for devices capable of detecting light wavelengths, including the ultraviolet region, with high precision; however, existing miniature spectrometers based on semiconductor devices are costly. In this study, we focus on a novel phosphor exhibiting excitation-wavelength-dependent emission, in which the emission spectrum changes significantly depending on the excitation wavelength. Since the phosphor itself possesses wavelength discrimination capability, this approach is expected to provide a new wavelength detection method as an alternative to conventional spectrometers. This presentation reports the optical properties of the phosphor, analysis of its excitation-wavelength dependence, and the fabrication and evaluation of a prototype wavelength discrimination device.
