Eu complexes exhibit high photoluminescence quantum yields and narrow emission spectral widths, making them promising candidates for realizing high-color-purity OLEDs without the need for color filters. On the other hand, Eu complexes tend to require high driving voltages relative to their emission energy due to the large energy gap originating from the ligands, which poses a challenge for achieving low-voltage operation.
In this study, we investigated strategies to reduce the driving voltage in devices by utilizing triplet excitons (T1) originating from the complex, focusing on a novel Eu complex that exhibits a high fluorescence quantum yield in the solid state.
