The germanium halide perovskite compounds MAGeI3, FAGeI3, and CsGeI3 crystallize in the trigonal R3m structure. Accordingly, a symmetry lowering from a higher-symmetry parent phase introduces a polar distortion, in which the order parameter develops along the threefold axis. Under 3m point symmetry, the in-plane directions (a,b) and the threefold-axis direction (c) are no longer equivalent, and a primarily uniaxial strain component along the c axis emerges in response to an applied electric field and/or internal state variables. In this study, we examine the relationship between charge-transport characteristics and lattice response through electrical measurements and structural characterization along the c axis.
