Two-photon absorption laser-induced fluorescence (TALIF) of hydrogen atoms was observed for several minutes after the extinction of H2/Ar atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge. We initially hypothesized that the hydrogen atoms were generated by the dissociation of vibrationally excited hydrogen molecules, but this hypothesis was experimentally ruled out. The persistence of hydrogen atoms for several minutes after the discharge is stopped is an extremely anomalous phenomenon. Therefore, in this presentation, prior to re-examining the mechanism, we report the results of a detailed investigation into whether impurities are involved in these experimental results.
