To reduce the use of rare metals in Li-ion battery cathodes, Li(Fe0.7Mn0.3)O2 thin films were fabricated by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and ion beam-assisted PLD (IBAPLD). X-ray diffraction measurements revealed that both films possessed (111)-oriented disordered rock-salt (DRX) structure. Charge-discharge tests were performed on Li(Fe0.7Mn0.3)O2 thin films prepared by IBAPLD on Al substrates. The capacity changed from 30 to 40 and 50 mAhg-1 with increasing cycle numbers. The electrochemical properties of Li(Fe0.7Mn0.3)O2 thin films will be discussed in detail based on cyclic voltammetry, XAFS, and AC impedance measurements.
