In materials analysis, particularly in the field of spintronics, elucidation of electron spin information is of great importance. In this presentation, we introduce recent trends in the development of spin-polarized electron sources and present our ongoing work on field emission spin-polarized electron sources with a nano-scale source size. By surface cleaning and structural characterization using field ion microscopy (FIM), highly spin-polarized electron beam emission has been achieved from Cr(001)/W(001) and Co₂MnGa(001) cathodes, and representative results are presented.
