The development of novel nano-phosphors featuring favourable luminescence efficiency, superior light absorption ability, and material stability represents a crucial strategic material driving the optical industry, including LEDs. Lanhtanide coordination compound phosphors, composed of strong light absorption abilities via conjugated organic ligands and lanthanide ions as luminescent centres, represent next-generation organic-inorganic hybrid compounds capable of simultaneously achieving pure colour purity with emission linewidths below 10 nm and powerful luminescence. In contrast, organic compounds have been considered difficult to apply in electronic materials such as LEDs due to concerns over thermal stability and chemical durability. This presentation introduces the potential of precisely designed lanthanide coordination compound phosphors as candidate materials for next-generation optical devices, such as backlights and micro/mini LED displays.
