We previously proposed a capacitive pressure sensor utilizing liquid crystal (LC) materials and a silicone elastomer as the pressure-sensitive layer, aiming at electronic skin applications that mimic human tactile sensation. However, a device structure that fully exploits the physical properties of LCs for highly sensitive static pressure and temperature sensing has not yet been fully established. In this study, we report on the fabrication of a device incorporating a pillar-structured silicone elastomer and in-plane patterned electrodes, and evaluate its sensitivity in the low-pressure regime as well as its temperature dependence.
