In this study, a light-scattering liquid crystal device was fabricated by forming a roughened acrylic layer on a glass substrate through spray coating of a PMMA solution dissolved in acetone. Light scattering occurs at the interface between the roughened acrylic layer and the liquid crystal in the absence of an applied voltage, resulting in an opaque state. When a voltage is applied, the liquid crystal molecules align vertically, switching the device to a transparent state. In the proposed structure, light scattering is dominated by the interfacial region, allowing the cell thickness to be further reduced and thereby improving the response performance of the liquid crystal.
