Single crystals of Ge-based perovskite ferroelectric semiconductors AGeI3 (A = CH3NH3, CH(NH2)2) were grown by a hydrothermal method, and their terahertz (THz) wave generation properties via optical rectification were investigated. Upon excitation with a 1560 nm femtosecond laser, broadband THz radiation in the frequency range of 0–4 THz was observed, and its amplitude exceeded that obtained from ZnTe crystals under the same conditions. Furthermore, by exploiting the dependence of the emitted THz amplitude on the direction of electric polarization in ferroelectrics, ferroelectric domain structures with characteristic sizes of approximately 100 µm were successfully visualized.
