In this study, we aimed to clarify how adapted sports that reflect the preferences of older adults affect their subjective health and sense of well-being. As the first step, we conducted and analyzed interviews with participants. The participants were community-dwelling older adults aged 65 and over. We explained the purpose and methods of the study to them both verbally and in writing, emphasizing that participation was voluntary. Only those who signed a consent form were included. We collected basic information (age, gender, medical history, exercise/sports habits), as well as subjective health and well-being (measured using the Interdependent Happiness Scale: IHS) through a questionnaire. Interviews were conducted using a semi-structured format and focus group discussions. Interview questions included: How is your current physical condition and health? What do you do for your health? What do you pay attention to in your daily life? When do you feel happy? Do you like exercise or sports? What kind of activities would you like to try? The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using the SCAT (Steps for Coding and Theorization) method. Three groups of older adults participated: Group A: a married couple aged 73 and 70 Group B: friends from a senior club (a 78-year-old woman, a 74-year-old man, and a 73-year-old woman) Group C: health exercise participants (a 68-year-old man, a 65-year-old woman, and a 70-year-old woman) The analysis provided insights into the backgrounds of older adults engaging in exercise, sports, and community activities, as well as important considerations when offering such activities. Details will be presented at an academic conference. We plan to use these findings to inform the planning and management of adapted sports programs for older adults and to examine changes before and after participation.
