In 2022, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare proposed measures to improve the efficiency of dispensing-related tasks, such as the partial outsourcing of preparation work in the dispensing of prescriptions, the introduction of dispensing equipment, dispensing of pharmaceuticals packaged by prescription, and dispensing assistance and support work by non-pharmacists under the supervision of pharmacists. Guidelines for ensuring medical safety and the proper implementation of partial outsourcing of preparation work in the dispensing of prescriptions (2024) have been formulated, and verification is being carried out in national strategic special zones. It is necessary to collect, analyze, and evaluate information on safety and efficiency, discover appropriate and useful measures for improving the efficiency of dispensing-related tasks in pharmacies, and link this to the enhancement of interpersonal tasks and community contributions by pharmacies and pharmacists. This symposium aims to deepen the discussion on the near-future vision of the advancement of the dispensing-related tasks of pharmacies and pharmacists.
