The approach to "university internationalization" is becoming increasingly diverse each year, and the policies and on-the-ground operations are also becoming more complex. To achieve their goals, university staff are required to acquire new knowledge and skills, including the use of technology.

In particular, Japanese university staff often experience frequent transfers every few years, making it essential to visualize operations and generalize and standardize tasks sustainably in the context of internationalization, which demands a high level of expertise.
In this session, the University Globalization Support Team from Benesse Corporation will discuss the necessary elements for realizing university internationalization from a private sector perspective. As the use of technology in future internationalization initiatives progresses, we will first organize the resources and current efforts within universities before considering the introduction of "tools" such as generative AI, the metaverse, and VR. We aim to explore how to maximize the presence of staff and existing resources, clarifying the added value that technology should bring and seeking practical approaches.

Furthermore, as we look toward future internationalization, acquiring business skills such as "global marketing" and "planning ability" for evaluating the effectiveness of initiatives will be crucial. The diversification of tasks necessitates collaboration between universities and specialized private enterprises, making the enhancement of collaboration and communication skills more important than ever. In this presentation, we will incorporate case studies from educational institutions that have collaborated with Benesse Corporation, allowing participants to envision more concrete directions for internal operational reform and human resource development. We hope to take this time to think together about the skill sets required for university staff and how to cultivate and develop them, aiming to transform universities into organizations that can sustainably realize internationalization by maximizing their internal resources.

Session Content:
•Current challenges related to internationalization in universities
•Bottlenecks in solving these challenges
•Necessary skill sets for staff in future internationalization and how to acquire and develop them
•Proposals for how private enterprises can contribute to the future of university internationalization
Group Discussion:
Participants will be divided into groups to freely exchange ideas on the initiatives that should be undertaken for the skill enhancement of university staff in the future. Each group will have a facilitator from Benesse Corporation's University Globalization Support Team to support active discussions.
