This study contributes to the decommissioning of concrete structures in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Because cracks, which inevitably occur in concrete, play an important role in concrete deterioration in various aspects (e.g., structural performance, durability, contamination level, etc.), crack propagation and its influence on structural performance must be investigated to decide the appropriate decommissioning procedure. In this study, the mesoscale rigid-body-spring-model was further developed to analyze the crack propagation under the high temperature due to the reactor core melting accident. From numerical results, a significant increase in crack density and maximum crack width indicated a severe impact on durability and contamination level. In addition, cracking was clarified as the major cause of deteriorated structural performance regarding the significant decrease of stiffness and strength under compressive loading.
