This study is concerned with the interfacial evolutionary behavior of the Cr/Mo-coated Zr alloy, an accident-tolerant fuel cladding tube. The interfacial microstructure of Cr/Mo-coated Zr alloy and the mechanism of its formation were investigated at three temperatures: 700, 750, and 800 °C. The results show that the Mo interlayer can effectively inhibit the generation of intermetallic compounds in the interfacial region until 750 °C, and Mo can exist stably at this temperature without significant diffusion. However, when the temperature increases to 750 °C, the eutectoid reaction between Mo and Zr occurs, leading to the generation of a large number of intermetallic compounds Zr(Mo,Cr,Fe)2 in the interface region.
