Soft matter stimulates human tactile perceptions, such as stickiness and moistness, due to its distinctive rheological behavior. The relationships between rheological properties and tactile perception have been studied intensively in cosmetics and foods. However, in conventional materials, changing the chemical composition to control rheological properties also alters other parameters. This difficulty in independently controlling the samples prohibits a clear understanding of these relationships. Recently, we designed a model viscoelastic liquid material composed of tetra-armed polymers (Tetra-PEG slime). Tetra-PEG slime can exhibit a wide range of rheological properties by changing the network topology while maintaining the chemical composition. In this study, we employ Tetra-PEG slime with various connectivities to identify the key rheological parameters governing human tactile perception and touching behavior, and to establish a quantitative correlation between sensory experience and material properties.
