The global shift to clean energy sources is driving the demand for copper, a crucial element in electricity-related technologies. As the leading copper producer, further sustainable practices in Chile’s mining sector are required. This research conducted a Life Cycle Assessment to evaluate the integration of renewable energy sources into Chilean copper mining operations, in alignment with the government's 2050 renewable energy goals. Results indicate that the utilization of green hydrogen produced from seawater desalination and renewable electricity could reduce Global Warming Potentials. However, concerns remain about the heightened demand for minerals, in addition to increased water consumption and land use.
