The Terrain Camera, one of the primary payloads aboard China’s Chang’e-7 lunar lander, has two primary mission objectives: (1) to acquire optical images of the landing area for investigating lunar surface topography and geological structures, and (2) to capture image data during the Chang'e-7 rover traverses.
This color camera is capable of imaging the landing area under low-light conditions and supports both still photography and video recording. To validate its on-orbit detection capabilities, a series of ground verification tests were conducted based on mission operational requirements. These tests were specifically designed to: (1) simulate and analyze the on-orbit imaging workflow, (2) verify data compression and processing algorithms, and (3) evaluate the camera’s data quality.
In this paper, we will introduce the ground test plan for this payload, the data acquisition and the results of the test.
