*Lachance Janice1、Jones Brandon1、Shultz Lexi1 (1.American Geophysical Union)
Today’s changing policy environment greatly impacts the future of research, driven by factors like shrinking science budgets, uncertain career paths, and new challenges in international collaboration and public trust. Many scientists are seeking training and exercises to understand how current decisions influence universities, federal funding, early-career researchers, and society overall. AGU has a long-standing tradition of supporting scientists in making meaningful contributions through science policy, global engagement, and linking science with society. A prominent example is AGU’s Voices for Science, an annual program that trains scientists in policy and media communication, equipping them to connect more effectively with the public and policymakers. This presentation aims to enhance understanding of how current political, economic, and societal influences shape the scientific landscape, offering practical ideas for scientists to voice their perspectives in policy discussions.
