In this work, we successfully developed a heterogeneous catalytic system for the deoxydehydration (DODH) of vicinal diols under atmospheric hydrogen pressure. We found that ReOx-Cu/CeO2 exhibited high activity for the DODH of glycerol at 413 K, achieving a turnover number (TON) of 142 and high selectivity toward the DODH product, allyl alcohol (66% selectivity). The reaction was found to be independent of both the hydrogen pressure and glycerol concentration, suggesting that the elimination step leading to allyl alcohol is the rate-determining step. Furthermore, the catalyst was reusable for at least four cycles after thermal regeneration and was also applicable to other substrates, including 1,2-octanediol, styrene glycol, and 1,2,4-butanetriol.
