The levitation of objects enables containerless material synthesis processes also reduces the risk of contamination by impurities and unwanted side reactions. This technology is also expected to be used in the development of new materials and in fundamental thermodynamics experiments. diamagnetic levitation is also known as one of these levitation technologies. Generally, to realize diamagnetic levitation, it has been believed to generate an extremely strong magnetic field with a large magnet, such as a hybrid-type superconducting magnet. Therefore, it is not easy to apply this technology to various experiments because researchers in companies and universities rarely use such magnets. Recently, we carried out precise magnetic field distribution simulations, discovered a new magnetic levitation system composed of four commercially available permanent magnets simply positioned by their own magnetic force, and demonstrated the magnetic levitation of water, a representative diamagnetic material. In this paper, we report the results of detailed observation of the magnetic levitation process of water droplets from horizontal and vertical directions using this simple system. In the future, our levitation technology is expected to be applied to recrystallization and undercooling experiments by combining it with a microscope stage.
