High-refractive-index dielectric nanostructures exhibit size-dependent structural colors due to the Mie resonances in the visible spectrum. Recently, we demonstrated that by employing colloidal suspension of size-controlled silicon nanospheres (Si NSs) with 100-200 nm in diameter exhibiting bright scattering colors. In addition, from the colloidal suspension, the monolayers of Si NSs on a solid substrate can be fabricated via a solution-based process and the structural coloration by Si NS monolayers was reported. In this work, to achieve the tunable structural colors, we focus on color tuning of Si NSs monolayers by Fabry–Pérot modes of designed substrates. We fabricated monolayers of homogeneously distributed size-purified Si NSs on Si substrates with different SiO2 spacer thicknesses. By changing the silicon dioxide (SiO2) spacer thickness (h) between a Si NS monolayer and the Si substrate from 0 to 200 nm, we study the Mie resonances of Si NSs monolayer modified by the coupling of Fabry–Pérot modes.
