Spin-charge interconversion represents a key phenomenon of spintronic technology. For this purpose, heavy metals are widely used; however, their high cost and large electrical resistivity motivate the exploration of alternative materials. Achieving comparable conversion efficiency in light metals is therefore crucial for the future spintronic technologies.
In this work, we fabricated Al/Fe bilayer heterostructures and investigated spin-to-charge conversion (SCC) using the spin-pumping technique. Efficient spin injection into the Al layer and subsequent SCC were clearly observed. The inverse spin Hall angle (ISHA) reached a maximum value of 0.2 for an Al thickness of 2.5 nm, comparable to—or even exceeds—that reported for heavy metals. For thicker Al layers, the ISHA decreased to approximately 0.02. Although further investigation is required to clarify the underlying mechanism, these results open new possibilities for utilizing light metals in next-generation spintronic devices.
