To realize next-generation energy harvesting technologies, the anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) has attracted significant attention. However, the conversion efficiency of the ANE is not sufficient for practical applications, and enhancing the efficiency remains a major challenge.
In this study, we proposed and demonstrated employment of porous nanostructures into magnetic thin films as a strategy to enhance extrinsic contributions. Using a vapor-phase dealloying method, we prepared several porous Co thin films with varying pore sizes.
Our experimental results revealed a significant enhancement of the ANE in porous systems with smaller pore diameters.
To elucidate the mechanism of this enhancement in the ANE, we analyzed the scaling laws between transverse and longitudinal electrical conductivities. The analysis confirmed that the extrinsic mechanism is dominant in these porous structures.
