[16p-S4_201-7]First-principles approach to magnetic excitation spectra
in the Fe/MgO interface

To contribute to the magnonics concept that information carriers are assigned to spin waves (magnons), we theoretically investigated magnetic excitations in the Fe/MgO interface using first-principles calculations which employs an approach based on the density functional theory and the dynamical transverse spin susceptibility within the random phase approximation. We found that the Fe/MgO interface exhibits sharper peaks in the magnetic excitation spectra, compared with the Fe slab without the interface. This implies a prolonged magnon lifetime. Origins for the prolongation will be discussed in conjunction with the suppression of the Stoner continuum near the magnon dispersion and the electronic structure modified via the orbital hybridization between Fe and O atoms.
