Ferromagnetic resonance linewidth ΔH originates from intrinsic and extrinsic magnetization damping. Among the extrinsic mechanisms, two-magnon scattering (TMS) could be amplified by magnetic fluctuations (i.e., magnetization ripples), causing a rapid increase in ΔH (ΔH peak) at a specific frequency. While the mechanism of the ΔH peak on an artificially created rippled substrate is well understood, the mechanism on a non-patterned substrate remains elusive. In this study, we find that ΔH becomes more pronounced and ΔH peak appears on non-patterned samples with rougher surfaces, indicating that surface roughness enhances the ΔH associated with significant magnon excitation. These findings provide further experimental evidence that the ΔH peak is caused by TMS as reported in a previous study, and that it can be modulated by the surface roughness.
