Time-resolved soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy based on high-harmonic generation enables direct observation of ultrafast nuclear and electronic dynamics. However, the rapidly decreasing photon flux at higher energies has restricted experiments to below the nitrogen K-edge. To extend these capabilities to more complex systems, we built a time-resolved soft X-ray spectroscopy beamline that provides broadband, high-flux output across the water window, enabling measurements beyond the oxygen K-edge.
