Colloidal perovskite nanocrystals (PeNCs) have emerged as highly promising gain media for amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) and lasing due to their high photoluminescence quantum yields and large optical gain coefficients. However, PeNC films exhibit pinholes and poor surface quality, which restrict their efficiency in ASE and laser applications. Here, we demonstrate densely packed and uniform Cesium Lead Bromide NC films prepared by a layer-by-layer (LBL) deposition. We replace the long alkyl ligands to reduce inter-dot spacing, enhance electronic coupling, and maintain surface passivation. Under nanosecond optical excitation, the LBL films exhibit low-threshold ASE, which is nearly half an order of magnitude lower than spin-coated films. We further investigate the dependence of the modal confinement factor on film thickness. This work highlights the critical role of surface chemistry and fabrication techniques in optimizing ASE efficiency.
