[競技スポーツ-A-30]Integrating Yoga for Athletic Longevity(コ)Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention Among College Students of Navelim, Goa – India
*Lobo Francis Xavier1 (1. Rosary College of Commerce and Arts)
Athletic longevity has become an important focus in modern sports science, with athletes aiming to maintain peak performance while reducing injuries and sustaining lifelong physical activity. This paper explores yoga as a foundational practice that supports long-term athletic health and performance through the integration of physical postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), and mindfulness techniques. Yoga complements traditional athletic training by improving flexibility, balance, mobility, neuromuscular coordination, and recovery, which are essential for injury prevention and efficient movement patterns.
The study examinesthe meditating relationship between yoga practice and general training using data from college cross country, athletics, football boys and girls for the past 10 years. The study confirms that yogic practices like Pranayama, Asanas and Meditation strongly predicts optimum level of improvement in flexibility, injury prevention and psychological sports performance. Moreover,yoga-based practices positively influence biomechanics, concentration, stress regulation, and overall athletic performance. Physical benefits, yoga contributes to psychological resilience, emotional balance, and sustained motivation, helping athletes manage competitive pressure and maintain mental well-being throughout their careers. By encouraging body awareness and controlled breathing, yoga also enhances recovery and reduces fatigue associated with intensive training schedules.
This presentation proposes a practical framework for integrating yoga into athletic conditioning programs at different performance levels. It argues that yoga should not be considered merely a supplementary wellness activity, but rather an essential component of holistic athletic development that promotes performance enhancement, injury prevention, and career sustainability.
Furthermore, Research published in sports science and yoga journals indicates that yoga-based interventions enhance recovery, reduce injury risk, improve breathing efficiency, and support psychological resilience, making yoga an effective tool for sustaining long-term athletic performance and well-being.
