Dual career development has become a critical issue in athlete development, as competitive athletes often struggle to balance intensive sports training with academic and career preparation. During adolescence and early adulthood, athletes frequently face time constraints, identity conflict between athletic and academic roles, and heightened risks of career discontinuity without sufficient institutional support. Emerging perspectives suggest that dual career development should be approached proactively—not only as retirement preparation, but as a strategy to enhance current performance, psychological resilience, and long-term adaptability.Technology may serve as an important catalyst in this transformation. Virtual reality (VR), in particular, offers immersive, interactive, and embodied learning experiences that extend beyond conventional educational tools. Prior research shows that VR can enhance motivation, engagement, decision-making, skill transfer, and emotional regulation in athletic contexts. Beyond performance optimization, VR may function as a gateway technology that stimulates athletes’ curiosity toward digital innovation and lowers psychological barriers to unfamiliar technology-related learning. VR may stimulate athletes’ curiosity toward digital technologies and encourages exploration of second-career pathways. The present project develops a technology-oriented course intervention designed to foster athletes’ interest in second-career development through immersive learning. A structured course module and corresponding pre–post evaluation framework were developed to assess athletes’ technology interest, motivation for second-career exploration, and perceived readiness for technology-enabled career transitions. This project contributes to dual career research by reframing immersive technology not merely as a performance enhancement tool, but as an educational intervention for promoting athlete technology engagement and sustainable career development.
