[R5P-03] Large-area section preparation of CI carbonaceous chondrites using Ga-FIB

Fragile CI chondrites, such as the Ryugu and Bennu samples, are susceptible to microstructural damage caused by resin embedding and mechanical polishing. In this study, using the stage tilt, rotation and scan rotation functions of a standard Ga-FIB, we produced a large-area cross-section approximately 300 µm wide in an unembedded, amorphous orgueil fragment. Good observation of hydrated layered silicates, magnetite, organic matter and voids was achieved without significant curtaining.
