Seven panelists will take the stage, including the conveners Yosuke Fujii (Meteorological Research Institute) and Tomohiko Sumida (Headquarters for Ocean Policy, Cabinet Office), together with Haruka Nishikawa (Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology), Katsufumi Sato (Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, The University of Tokyo), Haruko Kurihara (Faculty of Science, University of the Ryukyus), and Hiroshi Kuroda (Institute of Low Temperature Science, Hokkaido University).
The session will begin with each panelist introducing their poster presentation and sharing their perspectives on the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. This will be followed by an open discussion—engaging both in-person and online participants—on how the Japanese community can contribute to the realization of a “Predicted Ocean” and support the goals of the Ocean Decade.
A particular focus will be placed on exploring ways to ensure that Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) and people in the private sector can actively participate in these efforts. We warmly welcome contributions from researchers, members of the public interested in the advancement of ocean science, and especially early-career scientists.
