Climate change, global warming, and climate variability are now commonly discussed as major problems facing human society. But how well do we actually understand the mechanisms behind them? To begin with, what is the difference between climate change and global warming? In the context of Earth’s natural fluctuations over thousands of years, how significant is current global warming? How does carbon dioxide increase and decrease in the atmosphere? What would happen if the global average temperature rose by 1.5°C or 2°C? Is it true that extreme events will increase because of global warming?
In this presentation, I would like to return to these fundamental questions and create an opportunity to reconsider, from multiple perspectives, the aspects of climate change that we may have come to accept without deeper reflection. As a basis for informed thinking, we will examine real data and explore the scientific theories of climate science.
